-Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the way people make responsible decisions, establish and maintain positive relationships, understand and manage emotions, feel and show empathy for others, and set and achieve positive goals
-According to Abraham Maslow; "physiological, safety, and security needs must be fulfilled in order for Basic Needs to be satisfied" (Maslow).
-As our Basic Needs are met, we can start to focus on Psychological Needs, which include the feeling of belonging, and high self-esteem.
-Children who have experienced or continue to experience trauma have negative effects in their brain development thus affecting learning, behavior, and academic achievement
-Children who have experienced trauma do not always appear visibly upset. Instead, they may exhibit difficulty paying attention in class and/or processing new information.
-There are several approaches to support students’ social and emotional development
Ex: Know about access to support and services in and out of school.
Implement meditation and mindfulness in the classroom practices and observe student's thoughts, emotions, and body states
